“‘Uriarra Road‘ charts the decline of an outback town chasing survival as industry money crawls back to the city limits; left in its place, a confused and aging collective memory, drunk on nostalgia and the feral rantings of a right wing press.”
The gloomy pictures in the booklet confirm the expression of the first track’s opening notes: ‘Uriarra Road‘ may not be the most pleasurable road to wander, but its ‘rural decay’ has a distinct beauty for those susceptible enough to see it.
Y0T0 (or Year of the Ox) is the solo project of Charles Sage (Hessien).
‘Uriarra Road‘ , his latest album, is released on the Fluid-Radio sublabel Facture – “a full album’s exploration of the hope found in abandonment, using a broad palette of field recordings, guitar noise, sparse electronica, minimal beats and bottom end drone.”
Half of the 14 tracks included have distinct titles and are mainly created by Charles Sage, with the help of guitarist Ben Carter and vocalist/partner Jane Sage.
The other, alternating half of the tracks (all called “Uriarra Road”) are created with the help of Downliners Sekt, Jasper TX, Ghosting Season, Field Rotation, Spheruleus, Relmic Statute and Seaworthy – “all of whom navigate the intersections and resentful front rooms of Uriarra Road with skeletal reinterpretations of the main street”.
Though this album has found its inspiration in Australian rural decay, its message can be recognized worldwide: there’s a distinct beauty in decay and desolation – but, considering the underlying chords of this impressive album, we’re never completely without hope.
This (digital only) package contains a short film by Antonymes to accompany one track, along with a PDF artwork booklet and individual artwork embedded for each track.
